International Adoption DNA Tests

In the past decade alone, U. S. families have brought home tens of thousands of adopted children from overseas. Many countries from where these children were adopted have different political, social, and cultural environments from the U. S., and their governments may not be involved in the process of intercountry adoption at all. Because of this, there might be a lack of information about the children's background and the circumstance under which they are adopted. While many of these children are true "orphans" because of their circumstances, more birthparents in certain countries are choosing to give their children better lives through adoption.

To ensure that the birthparents and/or the children are not victims of human trafficking or abduction, DNA testing is often required to verify parentage relationships and support relinquishment by birthparents. When DNA testing is not a government requirement, some adoptive families and their legal representatives still choose to perform the DNA testing for peace of mind.

DDC's specialized Adoption Team works with U.S. embassies, consulates, and immigration service centers in over 160 countries around the world. Team members have vast knowledge of the ins and outs of many countries' processes. Additionally, we have an experienced legal team that works exclusively with attorneys and agencies to ensure that all legal and governmental requirements are met.

To support and promote the ethical standards for adoption, DDC is a proud member of the Joint Council on International Children's Services (JCICS). Our laboratory is certified to the international standards of ISO 17025 and has received commendation from AABB and CAP. You can learn more about our professional affiliations by visiting our accreditations page.
