DNA Diagnostics Center strongly recommends a personal knowledge test that follows the chain of custody. A chain of custody DNA test follows strict procedures that allow the results of the test to be used in a court of law if the need should ever arise. A trained professional collects the samples, verifying the identity of the persons tested.
Because a chain of custody test can prove that each sample came from the correct individual, all tested parties' names will appear on the DNA test report, allowing our clients to use the results to prove paternity to family members or other significant people in their lives with a credible test report.
While many clients may think they only need the test for their own personal knowledge now, it is important to consider the following questions before ordering a test.
Are you unmarried? If so, you may eventually need a legal test to pursue child support or to prove paternity for a birth certificate or acknowledgement of paternity form.
Will you ever need to claim Social Security, Unemployment, or WIC benefits? If so, you may need a legal test to prove that the child is yours or your partner's so that the child may receive the proper legal benefits.
Do the child's grandparents intend on including the child in their will? If so, they may need a legal test to prove that they are indeed related to the child, especially if the child's parents are unmarried.
If you answered yes to any of these questions, or if you think you need the results of this DNA test for any legal reason at any time in the child's life, a chain of custody DNA test is the most appropriate test for you.
