DNA testing laboratory in Fairfield, Ohio achieves groundbreaking accreditation from the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors’ ASCLD/LAB-International program.
Cincinnati, OH (DDC Press Release) July 20, 2005 – DNA Diagnostics Center (DDC) recently received the ASCLD/LAB-International accreditation for forensic DNA testing and became one of only two private DNA laboratories to receive this prestigious recognition.
The ASCLD/LAB-International is the most rigorous accreditation program for forensic DNA testing laboratories. Three ASCLD/LAB assessors came to the DDC Forensic Laboratory and spent three days inspecting the training program, case files, SOP manual, QA manual, documentation, and the credentials of DDC scientists and management personnel. The assessors needed to ensure that the laboratory is in compliance with the quality assurance standards issued by the FBI Director for forensic DNA testing laboratories and convicted offender DNA databasing laboratories, in terms of both policy and practice.
“The ASCLD/LAB-International accreditation process was a challenging, yet rewarding experience. We laid the groundwork in 2003 by receiving our NFSTC/ISO17025 accreditation. Since then, our stringent laboratory procedures had already been in place, ready for the ASCLD/LAB-International assessment,” Dr. Julie Heinig, DDC’s Assistant Laboratory Director in charge of forensic DNA testing, observed. “ It was a positive experience. We are pleased with what our laboratory can achieve as a team,” she said.
The internationally recognized ASCLD/LAB-International program accredits forensic laboratories and monitors their compliance for an accreditation term of five years.
