DNA Diagnostics Center Unveils DNA Day Activities
April 22, 2008 (Cincinnati, OH). DNA Diagnostic Center (DDC) is pleased to announce its participation in National DNA Day, a day set aside by the National Human Genome Research Institute to commemorate the completion of the Human Genome Project in 2003. The day concludes National Lab Week, which DDC also will participate in by showcasing its world famous laboratory and laboratory staff through various events throughout the week.
DDC’s Laboratory Director Dr. Michael Baird said, “DNA Day holds special significance to us at DDC. Since the structure of DNA was first elucidated over 50 years ago, many fantastic scientific discoveries have occurred which allow us to offer the definitive, gold standard, test for identification. At DDC, our DNA test results establish biological relationships that last a lifetime. It is exciting to be part of scientific community expanding DNA testing into the new millennium.”
As part of the DNA Day celebration, DDC has added an e-card sending capability to its website, accessible via www.dnacenter.com/sendcard. DDC is also featuring its DNA Educational Corner this week, encouraging the public, media and educators to explore fun and engaging resources about the science behind DNA analysis.
The Humane Genome Project was completed in April 2003. According to the National Human Genome Research Institute’s website, the HGP “was one of the great feats of exploration in history—an inward voyage of discovery rather than an outward exploration of the planet or cosmos; an international research effort to sequence and map all of the genes- together known as the genome- of members of our species, Homo sapiens.”
