Human Cell Line Authentication and Mycoplasma Detection
DNA Diagnostics Center (DDC) provides fast, reliable, STR-based cell line authentication services to verify cell lines used in research. DDC's testing complies with the requirements of the American Type Culture Collection (ATCC) and other leading scientific organizations. We currently offer:

Primary Cell Authentication
DDC offers the most comprehensive STR DNA testing available by examining of a panel of 17 highly polymorphic genetic markers (vs. only 8 recommended by the ATCC) plus amelogenin to determine gender, to generate an STR DNA profile that uniquely identifies a human cell. We detect as little as 300 picograms of genomic DNA. In addition, DDC can detect the presence of small amounts of mouse DNA in a human cell culture due to contamination from feeder cells.

2. Mycoplasma detection
Authenticating cell cultures is a process that not only verifies the identity of the cell line, but also rules out any contaminants. Mycoplasma is one of the most prevalent contaminating agents in cell culture. Unlike most bacterial and fungal contaminants, which are easily detected by changes in visual appearance of the culture, Mycoplasma contamination cannot be detected without further analysis.
