Immigration DNA Testing

DNA testing is an important step to complete the immigration process for family members. It is required to prove a biological relationship between a petitioner and a beneficiary, using an AABB accredited lab, when evidence (e.g, birth certificate) is deemed insufficient or inconclusive by the USCIS or U.S. embassy. Examples of DNA tests used for immigration purposes include paternity tests, maternity tests, siblingship tests, and grandparentage tests.

AABB requirements:

1. DDC schedules the petitioner appointment if they are located in the US
2. DDC ships a DNA collection kit to the US Embassy / USCIS office in your home country
3. US Embassy / USCIS office collects the beneficiary's DNA sample and ships the samples back to DDC
4. Once testing is complete, DDC ships the DNA testing results directly to the requesting Immigration office

A DNA test is requested to provide proof of a family relationship (e.g., paternity, maternity, siblingship) that is the basis for an immigration case when the paper documentation is missing or found insufficient to support the application.

If a DNA test was recommended by the U.S. Embassy/Consulate or USCIS office processing your immigration case, a copy of the written request is the first thing we need to get started. It typically contains the following:

• Your file/case number
• The names of the persons to be tested
• The type of relationship to be tested

One or both parents of a child born outside the United States are U.S. citizens, seeking to establish the child's U.S. citizenship. In some cases, the U.S. Embassy or Consulate requests a DNA test to prove the biological relationship.
